Hi, my name is Stacy Rae Mednick and I am a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I own and operate a personal training studio with my husband Michael in Huntington Beach, CA. I specialize in training women and have a deep devotion to motivate women of all ages to embrace their particular body type and feel good about themselves from the inside out.
I share this story with you because it is about my own personal journey with self-discover and coming to peace with my body.
When I was in college at San Diego State University, I asked my kinesiology professor why I carried so much body-fat in my upper body and not in my lower body? I had been teaching aerobics as often as three classes a day and on other day's as well and weight training too. I also asked him why if I trained so hard was I still big in my upper body? He really had no answer for me and this bothered me. I started to study this question that I had. If my own kinesiology professor couldn't give my a answer to this question, then it really made me wonder if any other women wondered it as well. Because of this I began a long period of researching exercise and different types of training methods. None of them gave me the answer I was looking for until I discovered somata typing. This is the study of body-types and personalities that go with them. It was developed in 1960. That was my answer I was looking for. I discovered that there are nine different body types, however I was most interested in the four most common ones. I also found my body type and answered my own question that I had about my upper body and the body-fat that was there. I am a mesomorph the shape of a apple and we carry our body fat mostly in our upper bodies and around are stomach area. Wow, this was amazing information to me, especially as a trainer, t,his made complete since to me, and felt a since of power. I then realized that if I were to create a workout that combined this information with a sound exercise program including the four main body-types than other women would get results too, because they would be working with their genes and not against them. That is when I formulated my workout system called, Body Techniques Workout System. This system teaches clients about the different body types and the pro's and con's that go with them as well as what exercises are best for your body type. I have since then trademarked this system and have been training women this way ever since. I also realized that there was a great need in our industry to get this information out to as many women as possible. I teach my clients about the importance of learning about their body types and how to exercise correctly to get the best results. Most clients that train with me have not yet learned about their body type or have any knowledge of this information. For me as a personal trainer this is the first step to getting started with a fitness program. I have been teaching and training for 28 years, It has been a journey, although I continue to continue to shape my program more and more every year.
I have had the opportunity to travel to Japan, Mexico and all over California giving lectures on body type training. Far to often the clients I work with have been doing workouts that work against their body types only to be depressed and frustrated. I find great value in my work as a trainer because, I love to see women's faced light up when I tell them that having curves is what women are suppose to have. Most women have a curvy body and don't like it. I now train my clients at our gym as well as at the beach. Getting outside really helps change the workout and work your body differently than when your in the gym.
I have a great love for working with kids and teaching them about the importance of exercise and nutrition. We offer kids camps, mommy and me workouts, beach boot camps, pregnancy workouts and workouts for seniors too. I have had the experience to compete in the first round of the Ms. Fitness Contests that started in the early 90's and placed 1st runner up in many shows. I have also had the pleasure of judging fitness shows as well. I have worked on several cable Fit T.V. shows with Body by Jake and Tamilee Webb.I have been featured in Ms. Fitness Magazines for my body type training workouts as well as post-pregnancy workouts for moms. I have a lot of experience and love what I do. I am passionate about training and am blessed to do what I do everyday, for that I am grateful. I love working out and spending time with my three beautiful boys and teaching them everything I know! One day I hope they will be trainers too, it's in their blood.
